Rheumatoid Knee Arthritis and Stem Cell Therapy
Autoimmune disorders such as Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) can be difficult to treat. Patients might be tried on multiple drugs with relief – or suffer significant side effects. Even the new biologic drugs that block the harmful effects of tissue destroying chemicals in our bodies that block TNF-a, IL-B, or IL-6 may result in dangerous side effects.
A patient with chronic knee pain suffering from rheumatoid and consulted with Dennis M. Lox, MD, about the possibility of having stem cell therapy for knee pain. After consulting Dr. Lox it was agreed that the her knees could respond to stem cell treatment.
One month later she is doing much better. She no longer uses a cane and can walk greater distances without pain. Rheumatoid Arthritis is an autoimmune disease and the field of regenerative medicine therapies such as Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) and stem cell therapy are allowing patients with autoimmune disorders such as Rheumatoid Arthritis to try and heal their bodies with their own stem cells rather than drugs that may create harm or has already failed to provide relief.
