Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) and Stem Cell Therapy
Tampa, Saint Petersburg, and Clearwater, FL
Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) and other autoimmune disorders have seen an interest in stem cell therapy. Simple reason. Stem cells are immunomodulatory cells. That means that can help regulate the immune system as well as provide an anti-inflammatory effect. Current biological therapy medications that work by suppressing various cytokines TNF-a, IL-1B or IL-6 are helpful to some patients but are unkind to others exerting serious side effects. NSAID’s and corticosteroid compounds are also with serious side effects including Avascular Necrosis (AVN). Many autoimmune patients such as RA or Lupus have developed Avascular Necrosis (AVN) as the result of prolonged cortisone usage. Stem cells function in a different manner when treating autoimmune disorders and Rheumatoid Arthritis. The multi-modal capability that stem cells exert can treat autoimmune disorders and RA in a completely different fashion. This approach can minimize or eliminate side effects seen with biologic therapy.
