A Golfer with Knee Pain Treated with Stem Cell Therapy
Dennis M. Lox, MD, a leading stem cell expert, has treated many athletes, including golfers with stem cell therapy. Golfers may be afflicted with many ailments, not just golfers elbow.
A particular golfer who was complaining of persistent knee pain presented to Dr. Lox as conservative treatment such as rest, anti-inflammatory medications, cortisone, and hyaluronic acid injections were not effective.
The golfer was told he had knee arthritis and would eventually need a knee replacement. This was not what he wanted to hear, so he obtained a consultation with Dennis M. Lox, MD,. Dr. Lox explained his condition and what he might expect from knee stem cell therapy.
The golfer elected to undergo knee stem cell therapy with Dr. Lox and was pleased with how simple it was. There were no crutches, no pain pills, and no physical therapy. Dr. Lox advised him on exercise and he returned to golf with some restrictions quickly.
At 6 months he was virtually pain-free and playing his normal golf game.
Not every patient can expect the same results. Dr. Lox frequently lectures internationally, and is often asked what is the success rate? Dr. Lox typically responds that depends on who you are talking about. Not all patients are the same, they come in all shapes and sizes. They do different activities and have different goals. Animal studies have shown favorable success with experimentally induced knee arthritis. However, the animals are carefully controlled and many factors which affect humans are not involved in these animal models of stem cell repair. Having a doctor who is experienced in stem cell therapy and understands the intricate variables associated with different patients is essential for optimal results.
