NBC Daytime with Cindy Edwards and Jerry Penacoli, interviewed former Professional Football Player, Tampa Bay Buccaneer and iHeart Radio Personality Ian Beckles and Dennis M. Lox M.D., about his knee pain treatment with stem cells.

Ian Beckles has been a long time patient of Dr. Lox a Sports and Regenerative Medicine in the Tampa Bay, Florida area, and in Beverly Hills, California. Ian played in the NFL for 9 years as an offensive lineman who had his share of trench warfare that lineman see in the NFL. Dr. Lox has treated many athletes from a wide array of sports in his career.

Cindy began by asking Dr. Lox: What was different about treating professional athletes? Dr. Lox responded with athletes have goals whether they are returning to the game or retired.

In returning to the game, the clock is ticking to get them back to peak performance for a season, in this case professional football. Injuries or prior surgery complicate professional football players, and the constant trauma of contact sports.

All this factors in to decisions for Sports and Regenerative Medicine, Stem Cell Therapy applications, science and Rehabilitation.

Ian Beckles was a offensive lineman tasked with protecting the quarterback, and blocking tenacious defensive players from disrupting the offensive game. A very physical job. Fraught with wear and tear on the body, and trauma.

Football, Knee Pain Treatment, Regenerative Medicine, and Stem Cell Options

Ian Beckles was having persistent knee pain, that continued after his football days were done.

Like many professional athletes, once they finish their careers, they want to be active, and continue in some sports activity without pain. He was teaching spin classes, maintaining his body weight through diet, exercise and work in the gym.

Knee pain was holding him back.

He turned to Dr.Lox for Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Therapy for his knees. Ian did excellent after his knee stem cell therapy. He returned to full activity, and is now 6 years out from his knee pain treatment, and happy enough to share his experience with others.

NBC Jerry Penacoli on Confusion about Stem Cell Therapy

Both Cindy Edwards and Jerry Penacoli, touched on the confusion about Stem Cell Therapy that exists from various parties, stating things about different Stem cells, and asked Dr. Lox to comment.

Dr. Lox noted the confusion exists due to lack of good understanding of the subject. This is due to poor information, and misrepresenting the facts. Dr. Lox an expert in the field, has lectured Internationally on Regenerative Medicine, Stem Cell Science, Tissue Engineering, Osteoarthritis and Sports Medicine. Including the International Perinatal Stem Cell Society, twice.

He understands the science of every cell type from Embryonic, Umbilical, Amniotic, Placental, Cord Blood and a host of others.

You really understand when you lecture with some of the most acclaimed University Professors in the world, and apply this knowledge to your clinical experience treating athletes and patients.

Stem Cell Confusion

Unfortunately, many people are told information by individuals selling something. These are not experts, and often things get lost in translation or frankly never translated, or communicated correctly.

The FDA is aware of this, and is taking action against false representing information on stem cells.

A stem cell that is not from the patient is considered a drug, and is strictly limited in what has been approved in the United States as a stem cell drug therapy.

There is a cord blood stem cell drug available for leukemia. There is not a stem cell drug therapy approved for sports injury or arthritis. Tissue derived from newborns are collectively known in medicine as Perinatal.

These Perinatal tissues are labeled Acellular, meaning no cells, and are approved as a medical device, not as a drug like stem cells are. A completely different process, and threshold for FDA clearance.

Knowing the facts and conveying them correctly to patients is an important step in avoiding confusion, and misinformation.
