Dr. Lox Consults Former World Boxing Champion Antonio Tarver for Regenerative Therapy
Antonio Tarver, a former multi-weight class World Boxing Champion, consulted Dennis M. Lox M.D. for shoulder knee and ankle pain, and Regenerative Medicine options, such as stem cell therapy.
Antonio Tarver is a south paw, boxing speak for a left handed boxer. Lefties often throw the timing off the more common right handed boxers. Having your dominant arm have difficult is a very period for a professional boxer.
Athletes Boxers and Shoulder Pain
There are many potential causes for shoulder pain in athletes. Boxers as well often suffer the same shoulder problems as other athletes who repetitively use their arms over head.
Tennis players, baseball players, football players, and boxers often suffer from several shoulder problems. The most common shoulder problems in these athletes are impingement syndrome, rotator cuff tears, labral tears and arthritis of the shoulder joint.
The shoulder over time develops common problems when subjected to overhead stress repetitively. The acromioclavicular joint (AC joint) often develops bone spurs which may rub on the rotator cuff, specifically the supraspinatus tendon causing fraying, scar tissue formation known as tendinosis.
This makes it painful to elevate the arm. Underneath the rotator cuff lies the glenoid labral a smooth cartilage layer meant to allow free smooth movement of the ball and socket shoulder joint. When the glenoid labrum frays or tears, pain and shoulder stiffness occurs.
This may predispose or occur along with the underlying shoulder bones, the head of the humerus and the glenoid rim developing degenerative arthritis as well.
Shoulder Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Therapy
Athletes are turning toward Regenerative Medicine and shoulder stem cell therapy as a means of avoiding shoulder surgery, improving shoulder function if shoulder surgery was not successful, or to halt or reverse the wear and tear of years of abuse Sports has taken on their shoulder.
Antonio Tarver consulted Dr. Lox an expert in Sports and Regenerative Medicine as his dominant left arm was losing punching power, and was painful to lift above his shoulder level.
All bad news for a professional boxer. Dr. Lox identified the shoulder problems and treated his shoulder with Regenerative Medicine therapy and stem cell therapy. Dr. Lox also identified various boxing training routines he was doing that were obviously making matters worse. That is a key part of what Dr. Lox does, and makes him different.
Being a medical doctor with over 25 years of experience in sports medicine, Dr. Lox is very adept at identifying exercises that potentially make the situation worse. If you don’t address these factors you are doing only part of your job. This sets Dr. Lox apart.
Having treated all types of athletes and having a expert knowledge of kinesiology, exercise, rehabilitation and weightlifting, makes it lot easier.
Antonio states that his shoulder is doing great now. He is back to boxing and pleased with his progress.
