Judo Practitioner Dislocates Shoulder

A man practicing judo, dislocated his shoulder during a toss maneuver. When the shoulder dislocates, the humeral head actually comes out of the shoulder socket. In order for this to happen, soft tissues must be torn. That is true whether it is relocated or not. What extend of soft tissues torn may vary. It is frequently the glenoid labrum, the cartilage covering the humeral head, and often part of the rotator cuff is torn as well. Because of the nature of this injury, it is a frequent cause of early shoulder arthritis, with or without surgery. This is a violent injury, much like an ACL tear.
Long Term Shoulder Repetitive Stress
Whether it is weigh lifting, over head tennis serves, certain occupations or recurring shoulder dislocations, it is accumulated shoulder micro or macro- trauma which accelerates degenerative shoulder arthritis. Unlike the recurring scenes in the Lethal Weapon movies, it’s not good to mistreat your shoulder long term. Any joint exposed to long term repetitive stress wears, no different than a car tire with high mileage.
Regenerative Medicine Options for Shoulder Dislocation
After the humeral head is relocated into the shoulder joint, it’s not over from a functional standpoint for high activity. Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Therapy May help repair damaged tissues that were torn as a result of the dislocated shoulder. The glenoid labrum and rotator cuff are frequently treated with Regenerative Medicine therapies.
