Mixed Martial Artist with Hip and Knee Pain

A mixed martial artist with hip and knee pain, presented for evaluation by Dennis M. Lox M.D. a Sports and Regenerative Medicine expert for the second time. He previously treated with Dr. Lox for hip, knee and low back pain. His back pain completely resolved after Regenerative Medicine treatment. Now, his knee and hip pain were slowly returning. He previously had knee and hip surgery many years ago for sports injuries. Including a knee ACL tear, and AVN of his opposite hip.
ACL or Anterior Cruciate Ligament Tears
The anterior cruciate ligament forms a cross ligament that prevents forward or anterior movement of the tibia and femur bones of the knee, whereas the posterior cruciate ligament prevents backward movement of the bones about the knee joint. The anterior cruciate ligament is a strong ligament, thus when it tears, it is a violent injury. Often, the medial meniscus and medial collateral ligament can be torn as well. Because of this, ACL tears lead to degenerative knee arthritis years later, with or without surgery. Dr. Lox has lectured on this topic internationally at Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Medical conferences. Understanding the long term effects of ACL and meniscal injuries is an important part of truly understanding Regenerative Medicine. Halting or slowing down the progression of degenerative knee arthritis is an important aspect of treatment. This requires an expert such as Dr. Lox, to address all factors that affect how the knee joint functions in life, sports and over time.
Hip AVN or Avascular Necrosis
Hip AVN or avascular necrosis is the most common joint affected with AVN. Avascular Necrosis or AVN, is sometimes referred to as osteonecrosis. AVN occurs when the blood supply to a region of bone is impaired, this loss of blood supply leads to bone cell death or necrosis. The degree of necrosis is important for the long term outcome of the hip joint. Often, patients are told they eventually will need hip replacement surgery. Patients often seek consultation with Dr. Lox for alternatives to hip replacement surgery, with Regenerative Medicine. AVN when it progresses leads to joint collapse, which leads to a rapid joint degeneration and destruction. Preventing this hip degeneration is a key component of Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Therapy.
