A Gift for Dr. Lox: A Patient Paints the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta

A patient named Carol was a long time patient of Dr. Lox and an artist, who painted for a living.

She was very fond of Dr. Lox as a physician and as an outstanding person. She often discussed interesting topics with Dr. Lox, one of which was about her father, who was a wrestler. Carol knew Dr. Lox was a former wrestler as well.

She was traveling with her father to Atlanta to see the 1996 Summer Olympic Games. Her intention was to see the Olympics and capture them on canvas with her paintbrush. Carol did just that.

When she returned to Florida she presented the painting as a gift to Dr. Lox.

It was quite an overwhelming gesture. Much appreciated and admired. There were all types of athletes on the canvas. Gymnasts, track and field, and in the lower center was two wrestlers. Carol stated she did that to represent her father, and Dr.Lox, another much-appreciated gesture. It remains in Dr. Lox’s lobby along with a framed letter from the artist Carol, dedicating it to Dr. Dennis Lox.

The 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta

Highlights of the games were Michael Johnson setting world records in the men’s 200 and 400 meters in route to both Gold Medals for the United States.

At the time Michael Johnson upright running style and winning every race was mesmerizing. It still is special to watch.

However, time erases most records, except for Secretariat.

The three races Secretariat won for the 1973 triple crown, the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness, and the longer Belmont all track records remain the same for 1973 and Secretariat.

Years later Usain Bolt changed men’s track with his still untouched World Record marks.

The Men’s Basketball team, nicknamed Dream Team III, included the 5 members of the original 1992 Dream Team. Led by Hall of Fame coach Lenny Wilkins, the starting 5 man team consisted of
Charles Barkley, Karl Malone, Scottie Pippen, John Stockton, and David Robinson.

The team also consisted of NBA superstars Shaquille O’ Neal, Reggie Miller, Hakeem Olajuwon, and Grant Hill.

The Men’s Basketball Dream Team III was 8-0, beating the former Yugoslavia 95-69 for the Gold Medal.

23 Years Later Olympic Athletes Have Effects from Training

In almost a quarter century, the human body changes. Olympic athletes in their prime train endless hours to be the best.

The dedication, discipline and determination payoff to make the Olympic team. To win the Gold Medal and be considered the Worlds best Athlete is a great honor that places you in the history books.

Often those who win the Gold Medal are the most dedicated and disciplined. This means their commitment to sacrifice all for their sport means excessive wear and tear to be the best. Countless hours of training. Again, a quarter of a century later, there are often wear and tear effects on their bodies and degenerative arthritis is not uncommon. These are the types of injuries Dr. Lox sees daily as a Sports and Regenerative Medicine expert.

Knee pain patients seeking Regenerative Medicine Stem Cell Options. Hip pain patients wishing to avoid hip replacement surgery, and understand how Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Therapy are options.

Shoulder pain patients with rotator cuff, labral tears, impingement syndrome, biceps tears, gleno-numeral arthritis, AC joint arthritis, and those wishing to avoid shoulder replacement surgery all pass through this lobby where Carol’s painting hangs.

Avascular necrosis (AVN) also know as osteonecrosis affecting many joints from, hip AVN, knee AVN, shoulder AVN, foot and ankle AVN all pass through this lobby as well. An interesting perspective for the gift of an artist to Dr. Lox 23 years ago, after the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta.
