A Patient From Palm Springs Opts for Knee and Ankle Stem Cells with Dr. Lox

A patient from Palm Springs, California consulted with Dr. Lox for persistent knee and ankle pain and stem cell therapy. The pain had affected her ability to walk long distances. An orthopedic surgeon recommended knee replacement surgery, after she failed to improve with conservative management of arthritis medications, cortisone injections, and hyaluronic acid injections. The orthopedic surgeon also stated that she may need her ankles fused. This was not an appealing prospect to her. She researched knee replacement alternatives and sought the opinion of Dennis Lox. Dr. Lox has lectured on stem cell therapy and Regenerative Medicine on the national and international level. Furthermore, he has also treated athletes from a wide variety of sports disciplines, including professional athletes with stem cell therapy.

What is Arthritis?

Knee and hip arthritis in women is a common disorder because of the shape of a woman’s pelvis. This is especially true of the inner aspect of the knee or medial compartment and is magnified by being overweight and of shorter height. Stem cell therapy for medial knee arthritis is common. The outer aspect of the knee is less commonly involved than the inside or medial compartment. Lateral knee arthritis can be seen after lateral meniscus surgery while the medial meniscus is more frequently operated on in arthroscopic knee surgery. This type of surgery especially where the meniscus is debrided, snipped or trimmed results in an accelerated pattern of knee osteoarthritis.

Ankle arthritis can occur from prior trauma such as fractures or repetitive sprains.
Being overweight also bears an increased load on the foot and overtime accentuates the wear and tear effect. Genetics also plays a role in ankle arthritis of some individuals. Stem cells may also be a viable treatment option for some affected with ankle arthritis.

Dr. Lox treats some rather complex cases. It is not always straightforward with sports injuries in healthy athletes. Dr. Lox has given numerous lectures on the effects of osteoarthritis and stem cell therapy to both national and international audiences comprised of fellow stem cell physicians, scientists, and world renown stem cell and Regenerative Medicine experts. Complicated cases can be very rewarding when the patient improves and has a better quality of life. That is what the practice of medicine should be about. Dr. Lox strives to maintain a personalized approach to each patient to try and achieve this goal.
